Mercedes-Benz has decided to drop the EQ brand used in its electric vehicles and return to its traditional model names. From now on, electric vehicles will be offered with names such as S-Class, E-Class and C-Class and will be integrated into the brand’s general model range. So why was such a decision made? Details in our news…
Mercedes is dropping the EQ brand: Electric models are returning to their traditional names!
Mercedes CEO Ola Källenius confirmed this change in an interview with Auto Express. Stating that this transition was first initiated with the Mercedes G 580 with EQ Technology model, Källenius announced that all electric models will be included in the standard series in the coming years.

In fact, the main reason for the decision is to protect the names of iconic models and ensure that they do not lose their historical value. Mercedes officials emphasized the importance of this transformation by saying, “It would not make sense to abandon the S-Class, which has been a prestigious name for years, just because it is electric.”
In the meantime, of course, the removal of the EQ brand does not mean that Mercedes will slow down its transition to fully electric models. The company also announced that it will continue to make internal combustion engines more efficient with hybrid engines and 48V systems.
With this move, Mercedes will make a natural transformation by integrating electric models into its current model range instead of presenting them as a separate category. So, what do you think about this issue? Do you think Mercedes’ abandonment of the EQ brand is the right decision for the future of electric vehicles? Will returning to traditional model names create a more positive perception for customers? You can write your opinions in the comments section below…
