Technology giant Meta has postponed the release date of its mixed reality glasses, codenamed “Phoenix.” According to internal company memos, the device, initially expected to launch in the second half of 2026, has been moved to the first half of 2027.

The postponement decision is reportedly due to the company’s efforts to achieve higher quality standards and make its business model more sustainable. CEO Mark Zuckerberg reportedly raised these requirements in meetings with executives.

Meta, which currently sells VR headsets and Ray-Ban smart glasses, has a new device similar in form to the Apple Vision Pro. The device’s power supply is reportedly external and disk-like.

Gabriel Aul and Ryan Cairns, leaders of Meta’s metaverse initiatives, stated in a published memo that this postponement “will provide significantly more time to finalize the details” of the project.

Internal company communications indicate that the delay stems from the simultaneous challenges of tight development schedules, extensive interface changes, and extensive technical revisions. Analysts note that this decision signals Meta’s increased discretion in high-cost hardware investments and a more cautious approach, in line with its plans to reduce the Metaverse budget.
