Meta is back with a virtual reality headset that is claimed to be affordable. The new headset, called Meta Quest 3S, was revealed for the first time today with leaked photos. One of the most striking changes in the images is that this device does not have a 3.5mm headphone jack. In other words, Meta has made a first in virtual reality headsets. Here are the details…
Meta Quest 3S will be the first Meta headset without a 3.5mm headphone jack
The leaked images include photos of the Quest 3S from various angles. The front, top, bottom and sides of the device are clearly visible. One of the first details that catches the eye is the lack of a 3.5mm headphone jack. This means users will have to use USB-C headphones.
So, it may be a bit complicated to charge and use headphones at the same time while playing games. However, Meta’s decision may be based on the aim of providing higher sound quality and privacy. Battery Capacity and Charging Power Meta Quest 3S appears to have a battery capacity of 16.74Wh.
This value is positioned somewhere between the Quest 2 and Quest 3 models. The device also offers 18W fast charging support, which is similar to the Quest 3. It will also be able to compete with previous models in terms of battery life and charging speed.
Controllers and other features
Another leaked photo hints at the Quest 3S controller. The controllers appear to be almost identical to the Quest 3’s Touch Plus controllers, suggesting that there shouldn’t be any major changes in terms of usability.
While the new headset is expected to offer major innovations, especially in terms of virtual reality experience and functionality, it can be said that a more minimal and useful approach has been taken in the design. The removal of the 3.5mm headphone jack in the Meta Quest 3S model promises a higher quality sound experience, but will require users to change their habits.
