Meta is making an important collaboration to provide more affordable and reliable internet to communities around the world that do not have internet access or have difficulty accessing expensive services. The company has established a new fund by forming a strategic partnership with the Internet Society to strengthen internet infrastructure and increase global connection speed.
Meta will provide cheap internet to thousands of people
As part of this initiative, Meta plans to invest $30 million by 2030 to expand internet access. The non-profit Internet Society aims to increase this fund by attracting more supporters and to expand internet access to a wider audience. The company works to make internet services faster and more affordable in areas with infrastructure deficiencies, while also aiming to train experts through technical training programs.

Meta’s investments to increase internet access are not limited to land-based projects. The company aims to build a massive undersea cable infrastructure spanning three different oceans and strengthen global connectivity. In this way, it is planned to increase internet speed and reach a wider user base.
The collaboration between Meta and the Internet Society is not new; The partnership has already seen the establishment of 56 new Internet Exchange Points (IXPs) in 45 countries. These points help local internet providers offer faster and more affordable connections. With the new funding, it is hoped that this infrastructure will be expanded even further.
Approximately 2.6 billion people worldwide still lack internet access, creating major barriers to accessing education, healthcare and digital services. Sally Wentworth, Internet Society President and CEO, said that this new partnership with Meta will help more than 2 billion people worldwide gain access to the internet.
How much do you think Meta’s investment will impact global internet access? Will projects like this be enough to bridge the digital divide? Share your comments!
