Meta is preparing to take user interaction to a different level with a new AI-based project. The initiative called Project Omni includes chatbots that aim to alleviate users’ feelings of loneliness and enable them to remain more active in the digital world. Unlike classic AI assistants, the developed system can initiate conversations not only with user commands but also on its own initiative.
Loneliness ends with Meta’s chatbots
According to information provided by sources close to Meta, Project Omni recognizes the user based on previous conversations and initiates new interactions using this past data. If the user does not respond, the conversation is automatically terminated.

In order not to disturb the system, no follow-up messages are sent based on conversations that took place 14 days or more ago. However, even if there are no previous conversations, the robot can try to communicate spontaneously with a topic that it thinks may interest the user.
The project is being developed on the Meta AI Studio infrastructure. The company aims to make people feel less lonely in digital environments and to make the relationships they establish with technological tools warmer and more organic. In line with this goal, a collaboration has been established with the Alignerr company. Alignerr provides technical support in the system’s data analysis and personalization of communication patterns.
The project is still in its early stages. There is no clear statement on what commercial strategy Meta will follow regarding this technology, when it will meet with users, or on which platforms it plans to integrate it.
However, it is stated that the company’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, has made a special investment in artificial intelligence technologies so that people can combat loneliness.
These developments, which indicate that the individual artificial intelligence relationships fictionalized in the 2013 film Her are starting to become reality, are the harbingers of a period in which the boundaries between technology and humans are being redrawn. It is already a matter of curiosity how Project Omni will transform in the later stages and what kind of impact it will have on users.
