RAM limiting feature being tested for Microsoft Edge
Even though new applications and games released today come with high memory requirements, users with low RAM capacity computers are still around. In this context, companies are trying to take this into account. Microsoft, for instance, is testing a RAM limiting feature for Edge.
From the screenshots that have emerged, we see that in Microsoft Edge, under the Settings section, there will be an option for RAM management in the Resource Control section. Users will have the option to limit memory usage either continuously or only while playing games.
As part of the upcoming comprehensive update, Microsoft Store will experience a significant performance boost on the Windows 11 platform.
Moreover, users will be able to determine the amount of RAM allocated for Edge. In this context, the browser can be limited to as low as 1 GB of memory. The maximum value will be equal to the computer’s RAM amount. So, if your device has 32 GB of memory, you can allocate up to 32 GB of RAM for Edge. Of course, the browser will only use as much as it needs.
The release date for this new feature remains uncertain for now. It is currently in the final testing phase. It could be made available to everyone with an update in the coming days.
