Microsoft is embarking on a radical overhaul to transform Outlook beyond email management into a digital work assistant with AI integration. According to this information shared in internal company communications, Outlook is no longer just an email tool, and Microsoft’s Copilot system is at the center of this major transformation.
Microsoft Outlook to be Refreshed
This overhaul includes a plan to completely rebuild the Outlook experience. According to The Verge, Gaurav Sareen, Microsoft’s new Vice President of Global Experiences and Platforms, has taken over the Outlook team.

Sareen describes the app as “a fundamentally rebuilt experience” that is “at the heart of the AI era.” This demonstrates the goal of redesigning the entire app, rather than simply adding “intelligent” features to the existing interface.
The new plan transforms Outlook into a digital partner that significantly reduces user workload. This allows the app to analyze and respond to emails and automate calendar management. Furthermore, thanks to Copilot integration, the system is fully integrated with Microsoft 365 applications.
Microsoft’s previous major overhaul, the “One Outlook” project, which combined desktop and web versions, failed to achieve the expected impact due to performance issues and delays. Therefore, the company’s new vision appears much more ambitious.
While Microsoft’s new Outlook plan is still in its early stages, development is accelerating. The Outlook team is abandoning the traditional annual or quarterly update cycles and is starting to conduct “weekly feature tests.”
This dynamic approach allows for faster prototyping and more agile implementation of innovations. These decisive steps demonstrate Microsoft’s intention to make Outlook a central feature among AI-powered productivity tools.
