Microsoft has announced a new OneDrive app that will address one of the biggest problems faced by users who accumulate thousands of photos on their computers. Developed for Windows 10 and Windows 11, this new app allows users to manage their photo archives much more easily and quickly. The main goal is to simplify finding, accessing, and sharing favorite photos.
Organizing your photo archive becomes easier with the new OneDrive app
In previous Windows versions, OneDrive typically offered a limited experience, limited to basic file management and syncing settings through File Explorer. However, this newly developed standalone app offers a much more user-friendly and comprehensive interface. According to Microsoft, the app focuses specifically on photo management and brings the modern and unified layout of the web version to the desktop. This allows users to access advanced features directly from within Windows without having to open the OneDrive website.

The new app allows users to view their photos in different categories. The “Moments” view automatically highlights important photos taken on specific dates in the past, while the “Gallery” section sorts all photos chronologically. There are also useful views like “Albums,” where you can view your own albums, “People,” which groups photos of specific people, and “Favorites,” which lists shots you’ve marked as favorites. Each of these views allows for easy access to basic operations like deleting, sharing, downloading, and editing photos.
One of the most striking features of the app is that it’s already available to Windows 10 and 11 users. While it doesn’t yet offer a direct shortcut, you can try it out right away by running the “OneDrive.App.exe” file found in OneDrive’s installation files via File Explorer. Microsoft is expected to integrate the app more prominently into Windows in the future.
Microsoft’s innovations don’t stop there. In the near future, a new tool called “Photos Agent,” powered by Copilot AI technology, will be available. With this tool, users will be able to access the photos they want in seconds by issuing commands like “Find my photos taken at the beach last summer.” Additionally, new features are coming to the OneDrive mobile app, including AI-powered editing tools and a “Photo Stacks” feature that groups similar photos.
