US Air Force officials stated that the accident occurred on 25 January and that the aircraft unexpectedly went out of control during landing and crashed on the runway. The 354th Fighter Wing, to which the aircraft belongs, announced an investigation after the incident.

Dramatic footage shared on social media showed the aircraft descending rapidly in a steep turn and turning into a huge fireball as it crashed into the ground. Those moments were revealed by a video recorded from the airbase’s runway.
Eielson Air Base officials stated that a thorough investigation was launched after the incident and that necessary measures will be taken to prevent similar incidents from recurring. It is not yet known what caused the accident.
