Tesla’s most popular SUV model, the Model Y Juniper, which we reported on the other day, has again attracted all the attention. While the new Model Y comes with significant changes in both design and technical aspects, it is currently only available in China and other markets supported by Gigafactory Shanghai. Although it has not yet been announced when it will go on sale in Europe and other regions, its new design and features have raised great expectations for those who are considering buying an electric vehicle. So what makes this vehicle so special?
Tesla Model Y Juniper with its renewed design and technical features
Tesla Model Y Juniper has a modern design compared to the previous version. The front end has been completely redesigned with a light signature inspired by the Tesla Cybertruck. The headlights have a sharper and futuristic look, while at the rear, the C-shaped taillights are combined with a light bar, making the car look more sophisticated. The interior features the same minimal and easy-to-use design details we see in the refreshed version of the Tesla Model 3.
In terms of dimensions, the Model Y Juniper retains the same basic lines compared to its predecessor:
- Length: 4,797 mm
- Width: 2,129 mm (including side mirrors)
- Height: 1,624 mm
Performance and specifications
The new Model Y is available with two different powertrain options:
RWD (Rear Wheel Drive):
This version has a 3D6 electric motor producing 220 kW (299 horsepower) and uses a 62.5 kWh LFP battery developed by CATL. This gives the vehicle a range of up to 593 km. This figure may be slightly lower in real-world conditions as it is based on the Chinese CLTC test cycle.
Long Range (All-Wheel Drive):
The Long Range model offers a two-engine layout: 137 kW (186 hp) and 194 kW (264 hp). This power unit is backed by a 78.4 kWh NMC battery and can provide a range of up to 719 km on a full charge. It is also stated that this version may be called Model Y+ in China.
All preparations for the production of the Tesla Model Y Juniper have been completed. Deliveries in China are scheduled to start in March 2025. Release dates in Europe and other regions have not yet been finalized. Although the new Model Y attracts attention in terms of both design and technical features, the fact that the range values were announced according to the Chinese cycle and introduced in limited markets raised some question marks.
However, Tesla’s next-generation battery technologies could place this model in a strong position in the electric SUV market. How do you think Tesla’s refreshed Model Y design and features will affect the electric vehicle market? You can share your opinions with us in the comments section below…
