As one of the most iconic fighting game franchises in history, alongside series like Street Fighter and Tekken, Mortal Kombat is going through a rough patch. After the removal of the mobile game Mortal Kombat: Onslaught less than a year after its release, the community is now embroiled in another controversy—this time, over the pricing of the Mortal Kombat 1 expansion pack.
Mortal Kombat 1 DLC Price Infuriates Players
Recently, NetherRealm Studios, the longtime developer of the game, announced the first story expansion for Mortal Kombat 1, titled Khaos Reigns DLC. This pack is set to include new characters, costumes, and additional story missions. Despite the rich content, the price of the DLC has left players outraged.
The DLC, which offers a variety of new fighters, a new story mode, and several new costumes, is priced at $50 (1,650 TL). If players opt for a bundle that includes the first Kombat Pack, the price goes up to $60 (2,000 TL).
Fans were quick to voice their displeasure with this pricing strategy. Many Mortal Kombat enthusiasts pointed out that they already paid around $100 for the Premium edition of the game, and now they are being asked to pay almost the same amount for additional content.
Unfortunately, such practices are becoming increasingly common in the gaming industry. However, while studios like From Software offer substantial expansions like Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree at reasonable prices, others are charging exorbitant amounts for DLCs.
