Musk kept his promise! ChatGPT rival Grok officially launched

Elon Musk's artificial intelligence company xAI has officially open-sourced the Grok 1.0 model. So how does the model work?

Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence company xAI has been working on a new artificial intelligence model for some time. Grok, which was initially offered to various X Premium users, is now available for free. xAI has made the artificial intelligence model open-source.

In a new blog post, xAI shared that it has released the base architecture of its 314 billion-parameter Mixture-of-Experts language model Grok-1. The released model represents a version from last October and is not tuned for any specific commands.

This move comes at a time when Elon Musk is advocating for open-source AI models. He criticized companies like OpenAI for not being open to the public and sued the company. The famous billionaire, who took part in the founding of OpenAI, says the company violated its promise to be open source.

Elon Musk is not stopping! This is how he threatened OpenAI

xAI, which makes the Grok model open-source under the Apache 2.0 license, allows other researchers and developers to access the model. In this context, you can analyze the 1.0 model, build a new AI on top of it and contribute to the model.

This will also heat up the competition between xAI and other companies. OpenAI, Meta and Google, the leading companies in the industry, continue to remain silent about Grok.

Early tests on social media showed that Grok lacks humor and advanced capabilities compared to competitors like ChatGPT. Time will tell whether the open-sourcing of the basic model alone will be enough.
