We know that human activities have increased the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Especially with the adverse effects of climate change on the future of Earth, this issue has become even more significant. NASA has released several alarming videos regarding carbon emissions. These videos illustrate the magnitude of the situation.
NASA shows CO2 emissions throughout 2021
The changing climates continue to threaten the future of the Earth. The videos released by NASA shed light on how serious carbon emissions are. These videos were published by NASA’s Scientific Visualization Studio. In the videos that depict all continents, they visually demonstrate how greenhouse gases, among the causes of climate change, have fluctuated throughout the year.
These videos released by NASA showcase the CO2 emissions throughout 2021. In the first video, when we examine it, we see North and South America. Pollution is initially more prominent in the northeastern region, where places like Washington D.C. in the United States are located. Additionally, the areas where the Amazon rainforest is situated appear green. The reason for this is the carbon absorption by trees during daylight hours.
As time passes and winter approaches, these trees release carbon. Additionally, it is worth noting that the video shows a significant amount of orange color. This indicates the substantial impact of increased usage of coal and other similar sources. It demonstrates to us how significant their contribution is in terms of carbon emissions.
The second video features Asia and Australia. In these visuals, it is evident that China has a significant contribution to the increasing atmospheric burden of CO2. Australia appears relatively better than Asia in terms of the orange color indicating carbon emissions. However, the country was declared to have the highest per capita coal emissions in the world in 2021.
The last video focuses on Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. However, in these visuals, we observe that Saudi Arabia and European countries have higher emissions from fossil fuels. The videos released by NASA are crucial in raising awareness, particularly regarding the impact of these emissions.
