Turkey’s advancements in the defense industry continue unabated. In line with the goal of protecting the Blue Homeland with domestic systems, a critical phase has been reached for the production of Turkey’s first National Attack Craft. STM, the prime contractor for the project, has officially launched the shipbuilding process by laying the first block.
National Attack Craft Production and the Importance of the Project
This ceremony, known in shipbuilding as “block-laying” or “keel-laying,” symbolizes the actual start of production with the installation of the first hull section. Designed by STM, the attack craft stands out for its high rate of domestic production. It will also utilize domestic and national weapon systems.
The National Attack Craft will serve as a small, yet extremely fast and agile warship for the Turkish Navy. Its high maneuverability will make detection difficult for the enemy. Furthermore, it will be capable of conducting long-range guided missile attacks in surface warfare missions.
The ship will have a length of 68 meters and a displacement of approximately 700 tons. Capable of reaching a top speed of over 39 knots per hour, the attack boat will provide living space for 36 crew members. The project is crucial for Turkey’s ability to produce its own attack boat, following its national corvettes and frigates.
The attack boat will be equipped with a 76mm bow gun, surface-to-surface guided missile systems, and a close-in air defense system (PDMS). It will also be equipped with modern equipment such as a 3D search radar, combat management system, and Chaff/Dekoy systems.
