German car manufacturer BMW has refreshed its flagship model, the 5 Series. With the new version, the fully electric driving mode has been added to the BMW 5 Series for the first time. Additionally, the car’s design has undergone significant changes. Here are the details about the new BMW 5 Series…
The BMW 5 Series is now bigger!
Mercedes-Benz introduced its new E-Class less than a month ago. BMW, one of the German manufacturers, quickly responded to this move and unveiled the new BMW 5 Series with the chassis code G60. Compared to its previous generation, the new BMW 5 Series with the G60 chassis code is now even bigger. This not only enhances the spaciousness of the interior but also gives the car a more muscular appearance.
Domagoj Dukec, the head of BMW’s design division, referred to the new BMW 5 Series as the “most elegant BMW” yet. Dukec stated that they have designed the most elegant BMW model ever. Although the word “elegant” does not perfectly align with sportiness, the new BMW 5 Series still maintains its sporty stance.
The 5 Series is now bigger and features sportier front grilles. This is not surprising since BMW has been aiming to enlarge the kidney grilles on its cars in recent times. At the rear, we are greeted with a more upright trunk lid. Instead of the LED bar design that used to progress in a single line, the taillights now have a new design with three blade-like elements, thanks to the touch-ups made to the taillights.
As we step into the interior, we can say that it offers a true display feast. Compared to previous generations, the cockpit has fewer buttons, and even the door locks and seat heating settings have been transferred to the screens. BMW has added small strips of touch panels on the car’s doors for both ambient lighting and the execution of such functions.
The instrument panel of the vehicle is designed similar to the fully electric BMW i Series models we are accustomed to. In the center, we see a large screen that pays homage to Tesla. The flasher and climate control settings located under this screen are integrated into a touch panel. The center console, which includes the gear lever and armrest sections, is quite similar to the previous model.
Now fully electric: The new BMW i5!
The electric version of the new generation BMW with the G60 chassis code, called the i5, will be available with two different motor options. The first motor option is the eDrive40, a rear-wheel-drive electric motor that produces 335 horsepower. In addition to this, there is also the M60 version, which features a rear-wheel-drive dual electric motor and generates 590 horsepower.
The combustion engine version of the car, the 5 Series, will be available for sale with the 520i, 520d, and 520d xDrive models. The plug-in hybrid models named 530e and 550e xDrive will be introduced in Europe at a later stage. It is not yet clear which versions will enter the Turkish market. Finally, the most powerful version of the car, the 540i, will be available for sale with a four-wheel-drive, inline-six-cylinder engine with a 3.0-liter displacement.
