The Elder Scrolls VI, one of the gaming world’s most anticipated releases, is testing fans’ patience. First announced in June 2018 and still in development, the game hasn’t received any new developments for a long time. Series director Todd Howard, in an interview published by GQ, revealed that the release of the next installment is still a long way off.
The Elder Scrolls VI May Disappoint Those Waiting
In an interview, Todd Howard stated that development on The Elder Scrolls VI is ongoing, but that players should be patient for a while longer. Howard acknowledged that a long time has passed since the release of the popular game Skyrim and stated that the studio is undergoing a “creative renewal” period with Starfield.

Howard also announced that a well-attended test session was recently held at Bethesda Game Studios. This session evaluated the current state of The Elder Scrolls VI and areas for improvement.
Howard expressed his desire for the game’s launch to be sudden. Following these remarks, he also stated that the sudden release of Oblivion Remastered was actually a “testing process.”
According to the development team, Microsoft may plan a short release schedule for The Elder Scrolls VI, similar to Fallout 4. Fallout 4 was unveiled at E3 in 2015 and released just five months later.
Despite all this information, current industry estimates suggest The Elder Scrolls VI will be released in late 2027 at the earliest, and most likely in the first half of 2028. This expected release date applies to both old- and new-generation consoles.
