Exciting developments are happening for fans of the Resident Evil series. Capcom is rumoured to be working on both a Resident Evil Zero remake and a film adaptation based on the same story. All these developments aim to revitalise the beginning of the series as it approaches its 30th anniversary. Here are the details…
Resident Evil Zero may return with Switch 2!
AestheticGamer, one of the reliable leak sources, suggested that Capcom is working on a RE: Zero remake and that the game could launch alongside the Nintendo Switch 2. The new game will allegedly aim to retell the beginning of the Resident Evil franchise’s story and will be promoted as an entry point to bring new players into the series.
According to Dusk Golem, the remake will not only be released for Switch 2, but also for other platforms. However, the possibility of a timed exclusive deal for Switch 2 is also on the table. This move could be a step that would support both a potential marketing deal with Nintendo and plans to celebrate the series’ anniversary.
The good news on the RE front is not limited to this… Screen Gems/Constantin Films, Capcom’s long-time collaborator on game adaptations, is preparing a new film that will bring Resident Evil Zero to the cinema.
In the film, where Zach Cregge will sit in the director’s chair, the story of the series’ beloved characters Rebecca and Billy will be at the centre. The film must be released before the end of the 2026 fiscal year, as this date has been set as the last date that the studio has to release a Resident Evil film as per the licensing agreement.
It looks like very exciting projects await fans of the series in the future. So, what do you think about these new game and film projects? Don’t forget to share your opinions in the comments!
