WhatsApp is introducing a highly requested feature that enhances the WhatsApp iOS status privacy controls for its users. With this new tool, you can easily confirm who is able to see your status update *after* it has been posted. This update aims to eliminate the common anxiety of accidentally sharing with the wrong audience, providing a significant convenience for users who frequently post for different groups of people.
How Does the WhatsApp iOS Status Privacy Feature Work?
Currently available to beta testers on iOS version 26.3.10.70 through TestFlight, the new tool operates on a simple principle. After you share a status update, you can navigate to the list of viewers and find a new ‘Audience’ tab. Tapping on this tab will present a detailed summary of your current privacy settings for that specific post.
This feature means you no longer have to delete and re-upload a status if you suspect you’ve shared it with an incorrect audience. Instead, you can instantly check who the status was delivered to for peace of mind. It is particularly useful for individuals who use complex privacy settings, such as excluding certain contacts or sharing only with a select few.

The ‘Audience’ menu provides clear information on three key aspects of your status:
- Who Can See It: This section clearly states whether your status was shared with ‘All my contacts,’ ‘My contacts except…,’ or ‘Only share with…’. It also allows you to view the list of any excluded contacts.
- Who Was Mentioned: If you mentioned anyone using the ‘@’ symbol in your update, a complete list of those users will appear here, allowing you to verify you haven’t tagged someone by mistake.
- Sharing Permissions: WhatsApp has a feature that allows others to share your status with their own audience. While this is off by default, this section lets you confirm whether you granted this permission for a specific update.
iOS Release Follows Android Beta Testing
Interestingly, this feature first appeared in the Android beta versions of WhatsApp. The tool, which has been tested by Android users for some time, is now being brought to the iOS platform to ensure feature parity between the two operating systems. This is part of WhatsApp’s broader effort to standardize the user experience regardless of the device.
However, it’s important to note that the feature is currently available only to beta testers and is being rolled out gradually. Therefore, even if you have the latest beta version installed, you might not see the option immediately. WhatsApp will likely release this beneficial tool to all iOS users after completing the testing phase and addressing any potential issues.
