Nike has launched a groundbreaking innovation in wearable technology, introducing “Project Amplify,” the world’s first motorized shoe system. The company stated that it developed this new technology for everyday runners, rather than professional athletes, and for users who want to cover longer distances with less effort.
Nike Comes with a Motorized Shoe System
Nike describes its Project Amplify system as a “second calf muscle.” According to the company, the system supports the natural movement of the calf and ankle muscles during walking and running. This support allows users to take faster and easier steps. Amplify is specifically optimized for users running at a speed of approximately 150-160 meters per minute.

Nike partnered with robotics company Dephy to develop this system. The company tested Project Amplify on more than 400 athletes, analyzing a total of 2.4 million steps during these tests.
The system works with motion algorithms developed by the Nike Sport Research Lab. It is powered by components including a lightweight motor integrated into the shoe, a drive belt, and a rechargeable cuff battery.
Project Amplify is designed to be integrated into a carbon fiber-based running shoe. Users can choose to use the shoe with either robotic assist mode or simply as a regular shoe. However, Nike has stated that Project Amplify is not currently ready for commercial release. The company has announced that the system will be available in the coming years.
