Nintendo plans to sell 15 million units worldwide for its next-generation game console, the Switch 2, by the end of March 2026. The company’s goal, despite the device being released at a higher price, has revealed a sales expectation that is very close to the first-year performance of the previous-generation Switch.
Nintendo announced its sales target for the Switch 2
The Switch 2 will go on sale on June 5, 2025. Nintendo has approximately 10 months to reach this target of 15 million. In addition, the company aims to sell 45 million games in the same period.

In addition to hardware, an aggressive strategy is also being followed on the gaming side. However, Nintendo will not completely withdraw the first-generation Switch from the market. In the next fiscal year, 4.5 million units are expected to be sold for the current Switch model and over 100 million games are expected to be sold.
The first-generation Nintendo Switch was released in March 2017. The device, which achieved 17.79 million sales in its first 13 months on sale, exceeded the company’s expectations. Having sold over 150 million units to date, the Switch is close to surpassing Nintendo’s best-selling console, the DS.
The price of the Switch 2 has also been announced. The new-generation console, which will be sold for $450 in the US and 470 euros in Europe, has been met with great interest in the market despite its high price. While the number of pre-orders in Japan exceeded 2.2 million, stocks quickly ran out on the day pre-orders opened in the US.
