Nissan is preparing to launch a new affordable electric car based on the Renault Twingo. The vehicle is expected to be unveiled in early 2027 and named the Nissan Wave.
Nissan to Launch Affordable Electric Vehicle
The partnership between Renault and Nissan is further strengthened through the development and production of electric models. For example, the Nissan Ariya and Renault Scenic E-Tech share the same platform, while the Renault 5 E-Tech Electric and the new Nissan Micra roll off the same assembly line at the Douai plant in France.

The partners plan to expand this collaboration to a smaller segment. Renault will launch a modern, fully electric version of the original 1990s Twingo in 2026. This city car is notable for its price tag of under 20,000 euros.
Nissan is also launching a Twingo twin to boost sales. Both vehicles will be produced at Renault’s Novo Mesto plant in Slovenia. The fourth-generation Twingo is expected to be unveiled in spring 2026, with the Nissan version expected in early 2027.
According to information obtained by French trade magazine L’argus from inside sources, Nissan will name its new city car “Wave.” To keep costs low, Renault partnered with Chinese automotive giant Geely in the development of the new Twingo.
The fourth-generation Twingo uses the group’s “AmpR Small” architecture. The 63 kW electric motor and battery will be sourced from China. Renault says this battery will provide a range of up to 300 kilometers.
