Almost every technology manufacturer offers warranty processes covering certain scenarios to its customers. While some brands consider scenarios such as screen breaks and liquid contact within the scope of warranty, others consider such situations as user error. This is actually a situation entirely related to brand strategies. In this context, Apple introduced a feature in its new Mac series that will report liquid contact directly to the brand. Here are the details…New Mac and MacBook series will report liquid contacts on USB-C ports to Apple! When we look at Apple’s warranty conditions, the brand does not consider its devices, such as iPhone, Apple Watch and some AirPods models, which are declared to be resistant to water to a certain extent, within the scope of warranty in case of liquid contact problems. The brand, which has some test modules and dividers in its technical services, reflects the repair processes of devices exposed to liquid contact to users.Liquid contact, especially on iPhones, can be detected by the liquid strips located between the screen and casing of the devices. While these tapes help the device increase its liquid resistance, they change color in contact with the liquid, helping Apple understand the problem. Devices with discoloration on the liquid strips are separated as having liquid contact and are out of warranty.
In addition, the brand, which has several different methods of understanding liquid contact, has introduced a different feature in its new Mac series. This feature, which comes with macOS Sonoma 14.1, is a background application called “liquiddetectiond” that sends a notification to Apple if there is liquid contact in the USB-C ports of the new Mac series. This application constantly runs in the background and if liquid contact is detected, it creates a record and sends it to Apple with the serial number of the device.
When the device in question comes to the technical service, Apple examines these records and sees whether there is any liquid contact. If the main reason for the problem when the device comes to service is due to liquid contact, the device is out of warranty. So what do you think about this new background application?
