OpenAI has officially announced the new Chronicle system it developed for Codex, which focuses on coding processes. This new feature aims to assist users by tracking their work processes more closely.

This system, which is available in the Mac application, is reminiscent of the Recall feature Microsoft prepared for Windows 11 with its working principle. Operating in the background, Chronicle takes screenshots at regular intervals and creates a special memory using this data.

According to the statement made by the company, Chronicle helps Codex understand what the user means much better. The system can easily identify an error message on the screen or a file that is currently open.

It brings you the necessary context by even remembering a project you were working on two weeks ago. As time passes, it learns your way of working by grasping which tools you use and your work routine. This way, users do not need to re-explain the context every time. Codex continuously improves and keeps its memory up to date using the latest screen context.

OpenAI also shared important information about the data security and storage conditions of this system. The screenshots taken to create a memory and the prepared data are temporarily stored on the user’s own device.

Users can review or edit these memories whenever they wish. However, the company issues a warning to users that other applications on the device can also access these files.
