One of the first companies that comes to mind when thinking of Sony and PlayStation exclusives, Ready at Dawn—known for its notable titles like God of War and Daxter for the PlayStation Portable—has officially closed its doors. Here are the details of what happened…
A Sad Farewell from the God of War Developer
Though Sony’s PlayStation brand is known for its big names, Ready at Dawn was established by a small team that had previously worked on the legendary Uncharted series with Naughty Dog.
The company, known for its acclaimed games like God of War: Ghost of Sparta, God of War: Chains of Olympus, God of War: Origins Collection, and Daxter, saw the beginning of its end with the failure of The Order: 1886, one of the PS4’s launch titles.
The studio, which had been essentially pushed out of Sony, was later acquired by Meta to develop games for the Oculus Rift. Despite receiving good reviews for its Oculus games, Meta has now decided to officially shut down the studio.
Here’s a statement from Robert Duncan of Ready at Dawn:
“As many of you may have already heard, Ready At Dawn Studios is closing its doors this morning. I have worked at RAD for over 10 years, and it’s incredibly saddening to see this amazing team, which I’ve come to love, disband in this way.
Nevertheless, I’m currently focusing my efforts (and honestly, my distraction) on finding solid positions for all my dear friends. If anyone has job opportunities or positions they’d like to share, please don’t hesitate to contact me directly, and I will do my best to connect you with great people who might be interested.”
