Amazon launched an AI-powered video summary feature for some popular shows on its Prime Video platform last month in a limited beta. Developed for series like Fallout, Jack Ryan, The Rig, Upload, and Bosch, this feature aimed to help viewers quickly recall events from previous seasons. However, the process was unexpectedly halted after viewers noticed serious errors in the system and shared them on online platforms.
Prime Video warns viewers: Serious errors in AI summaries
This feature, called “Video Summaries,” combined video clips, sound effects, dialogue snippets, and music, presenting them to the viewer with an AI-generated voiceover. According to Amazon, the system aimed to analyze key plot points and character development of a season, helping viewers understand the most important moments before starting a new season. However, following complaints, the feature has reportedly been removed.

The problems were particularly focused on the summary for the Fallout series. According to information shared by a viewer on Reddit, AI mistakenly dated the flashback scenes of the character Cooper Howard to 1950 instead of 2077, as it actually is. Another user, in a post on the X platform, stated that the AI completely misinterpreted a dialogue in the final scene. The choice Cooper made for Lucy was presented as if he were the one who would kill her, creating a narrative disconnected from the context of the story.
Following these developments, many technology sources confirmed that the summary option has disappeared from the application. While some users can still see the summary button in the app, it is reported that nothing happens when clicked. Amazon has yet to issue an official statement on the matter. This trial period once again highlights how much progress AI technologies need to make in content summarizing.
So, what are your thoughts on this? Would you rely on AI-assisted summaries to remember previous seasons of the shows you watch, or would you prefer to rely on your own memory? We await your comments.
