Tesla has decided to halt the production of one of its most expensive electric vehicle models, the Cybertruck Foundation series. The $100,000 vehicle will be replaced by more affordable models. So why was production stopped? Here are the details…
The Tesla Cybertruck Foundation series has ended! New and more affordable models are coming
Tesla is stopping the production of the Cybertruck Foundation Series, which it began delivering in November 2023. The difference between these models and others included unlimited lifetime Supercharging, free full self-driving (FSD), a bidirectional charging system voucher, and an accessory kit. But, of course, all these extras came at a cost: a whopping $100,000. This naturally placed the vehicle in the luxury category.
The high price is not the only reason for stopping production. Initially, there was a lot of excitement about these early deliveries, but the frenzy has died down recently. Moreover, competition has increased with other electric trucks like the Ford F-150 Lightning. Additionally, demand in the electric truck market has slowed down.
After announcing the end of the Cybertruck Foundation Series, Elon Musk stated that orders would open for more affordable models. The starting price of the new models will be $79,990. So, it’s still not very cheap, but much more accessible compared to the Foundation Series. However, deliveries of these new models will not begin until 2025.
Tesla is ramping up the production of Cybertrucks outside of the Foundation series. Currently, 1,300 units are being produced per week, but the goal is to reach 2,500 units per week by the end of the year. If this target is met, the new Cybertruck models can be delivered on time.
The arrival of more affordable Tesla models means that Tesla will appeal to a broader audience. This will allow more people to experience its innovative technologies.
