Mars, one of our major stellar neighbors, is a sea of secrets that mankind is still eager to explore… New discoveries made by a NASA rover show that our neighbor once had lakes just like the ones on our planet today.
The rover has discovered some preserved ripples here that are very similar to those seen in lake beds. The first details of an exciting discovery on the red planet that has been a vast desert for several billion years have been revealed.
Interesting evidence of past life on Mars
NASA’s Curiosity rover has been exploring the red planet’s soil since 2012. Now, almost 13 years later, evidence of something similar is emerging. These discovered ripples were found in the Gale Crater. It was realized that the ripples were created when the water was carried away by the wind.
Finding such evidence reinforces that this long-dead water was not frozen, but was exposed to the red planet’s atmosphere. In a sense, it is possible to say that at some point in its history, Mars had an atmosphere dense enough to support liquid water on its surface.
Today, the planet has a cold and dry surface and an atmosphere completely filled with carbon dioxide. As we mentioned at the beginning, Mars is a planet shrouded in mystery. Especially when we discover more evidence that it may have once been a place similar to our planet.
We’ll see what else these discoveries will one day tell us about what the red planet was like in its possible golden age. What do you think about this interesting discovery? Share your comments!
