The collaboration between Renault and Chinese automotive manufacturer Geely has entered a new phase. Renault has begun developing fully electric and plug-in hybrid SUVs using Geely’s advanced GEA platform. These models are designed for markets where Renault has a global presence, particularly Southeast Asia and Latin America.
Renault is working on new SUV models
The new vehicle series will be built on the architecture and chassis adopted from Geely’s Galaxy series. Renault is developing the exterior design of these models in-house. This is the first time the GEA platform has been supplied to another manufacturer, demonstrating the extent of technology sharing between the two companies. This collaboration will shorten development times and reduce production costs.

Renault’s dealer network in South Korea, Southeast Asia, Latin America, and North Africa will play a critical role in marketing the new models. With this partnership, Geely will leverage Renault’s global infrastructure, enabling it to offer its products to consumers across a wider geography.
The collaboration between the two companies was first announced at the end of 2021. Subsequently, in 2022, it was announced that the hybrid Koleos, based on Geely’s CMA platform, would be produced at Renault’s South Korean plant. This model was launched in 2024.
In early 2025, a new agreement was signed between Geely and Renault. Under this agreement, Geely acquired a minority stake in Renault Brazil. This will allow Geely to leverage Renault’s production capacity, sales network, and after-sales service in Brazil to sell its models in this market. As a first step, Geely plans to produce and market the international version of the Galaxy E5 through Renault Brazil.
