Preparations for a new Resident Evil film have accelerated. The long-established horror series from the gaming world is returning to the big screen with a completely new twist. Directed by Zach Cregger, the project will be the first installment in a brand new series, independent of previous installments. The film will be released on September 18, 2026.
Resident Evil film to be released
The new film will tell its story not through classic Resident Evil elements, but through the eyes of a unique character. The film centers on Bryan, a courier who delivers organs to hospitals. Heading to Raccoon City for an urgent delivery at night, Bryan hits something on a snow-covered mountain road. Initially thinking it’s an ordinary casualty, he soon realizes what he encounters is not human.

Austin Abrams, known for his work in films like Euphoria and Weapons, will play Bryan. No information has yet been released about the rest of the cast, but filming is expected to begin soon. Therefore, the rest of the cast is expected to be announced soon.
Previous Resident Evil films were known for their focus on action. This new project will feature more horror elements. Official trailers released so far also support this shift. Director Zach Cregger, known for his previous work in the horror genre, brings a distinct tone to the project.
Based on Capcom’s popular game series, the Resident Evil franchise has seen numerous film adaptations in the past. However, the new film shares no direct connection to either the previous film series or the main storyline explored in the games. This offers an accessible introduction for viewers unfamiliar with the series while also promising a fresh atmosphere for fans.
