Popular social media platform Instagram is taking important steps for security and privacy. According to recent news, the platform announced a new feature to prevent users from being exposed to unwanted photos and videos. Additionally, Instagram has implemented restrictions on its DM (Direct Message) feature. Here are the details!
Users will only be able to send one message from Instagram DM!
With millions of users, Instagram has taken a new step to prevent user DMs from getting flooded with unwanted messages. Users often receive numerous unwanted photos, videos, or messages in their DMs. However, it is believed that this situation will improve with the introduction of this new feature.
Users are facing two restrictions related to this matter. The first limitation is that they cannot send unlimited DM requests to someone who doesn’t follow them. However, they can send only one message to someone who doesn’t follow them. If the message request is accepted, they can continue sending DMs.
Furthermore, when sending a message to someone for the first time, users won’t be able to directly share photos, videos, or voice messages. They can only send a text message initially. Once their request is accepted, they can share content beyond text.
The platform aims to eliminate the discomfort caused by users receiving constant messages from unknown individuals. With these restrictions, they believe they can address this issue effectively. Cindy Southworth, Meta Women’s Safety Head, provided a statement regarding this matter.
“We want people to feel safe and in control when they open their inboxes. That’s why we’re testing new features that prevent them from receiving pictures, videos, or multiple messages from someone they don’t follow until they accept the chat request. (…)”
