The creators of the GTA series are facing difficult times due to a mass layoff in the autumn. The Rockstar dismissals in their UK and Canadian offices have become a major topic not only in the gaming world but also in politics. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced he would personally investigate the matter.
Rockstar layoff allegations brought to Parliament
Labour MP Chris Murray raised the issue in Parliament on December 10th. Murray stated that he had spoken with Rockstar officials but could not be assured that the company was complying with UK employment law. The MP expressed concern that the events could be a clear attempt to suppress unionization.

Murray asked Prime Minister Starmer, “Shouldn’t all companies, regardless of profit, comply with the law?” Prime Minister Starmer described the situation as “extremely worrying.” He stated that the government is committed to strengthening workers’ rights and pledged that ministers would thoroughly investigate the case and follow the process.
The incident centers on the dismissal of 31 employees. Take-Two, the owner of Rockstar, claims the decision was made due to “gross misconduct.” However, the UK Independent Workers’ Union (IWGB) alleges this is a cover-up. According to the union, the company is trying to prevent unionization by purging organized workers.
Chris Murray, the MP, clearly expressed his dissatisfaction with his meeting with Rockstar. He stated, “I was not informed exactly what these 31 people did that warranted their immediate dismissal,” emphasizing the lack of transparency in the process. The union is demanding the reinstatement of the dismissed workers and the recognition of their union rights.
