French automaker Peugeot, which successfully revived interest in sedans with the launch of the 508 model in 2018, is now nearing the end of this model. Popular in Turkey with thousands on the road, the Peugeot 508 will cease production in 2025. Here are the details…
Peugeot 508 to Cease Production in 2025
The 508 model, which entered the market with its launch in 2018, was initially introduced by Peugeot’s CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato as a bold move in the face of the SUV trend. Despite its modern design and appealing interior details, the model is approaching its end. According to recent announcements, Peugeot will discontinue the 508 model in 2025.
Although it initially achieved good sales figures, interest in SUVs grew over the years, leading to stagnation in sedan sales. Despite a redesign in September 2023, Peugeot was unable to boost sales and will end production of the 508 in 2025, a year earlier than initially planned.
The production cessation initially applies to the UK, where production of the right-hand-drive 508 will stop, leading to cost savings and streamlined processes at the Mulhouse factory. Production of the 508 will also end in other European countries by 2025.
Peugeot, which has gained momentum with its crossover and SUV models, will focus more on this segment moving forward. The 508 will be the brand’s last premium-class sedan. With 5,512 units sold in the first half of 2024, the 508 unfortunately did not achieve success against the 3008 and 5008 SUV models. As of August, the starting price of the Peugeot 508 in Turkey is 2,145,000 TL.
