Samsung has officially expanded its budget-friendly smartphone lineup by launching the Samsung Galaxy A18 4G across several European markets, including France, Norway, and Sweden. Serving as the direct successor to the Galaxy A17 4G, this new device aims to balance modern hardware upgrades with an unprecedented commitment to long-term software support. While the handset quietly appeared on official regional websites, it has sparked immediate discussions regarding its positioning due to a significant price increase compared to the previous generation. Samsung has prioritized physical longevity by equipping the Galaxy A18 4G with an IP64 certification, protecting the internals from dust and water splashes. The device is powered by a 5,000 mAh battery, which the company claims is rated to maintain health through 1,200 charge cycles. With 25W fast-charging capabilities, the battery can reach a 50 percent charge in approximately 30 minutes. 
A side-mounted fingerprint scanner is also integrated to ensure secure and efficient access for the user.
Software Support Promises are Extended Significantly
One of the most impressive aspects of this release is the software commitment. The Galaxy A18 4G ships with Android 17 and One UI 9 out of the box. Samsung has pledged six years of major OS updates, with security patches scheduled to arrive until the end of October 2032. This extended support cycle positions the phone as a long-term investment for budget-conscious buyers despite the higher initial cost.
Market pricing reveals a notable shift, as the 4GB RAM and 128GB storage model is listed at 280 euros in France, which is roughly 80 euros more expensive than the launch price of its predecessor. Given that the previous model offered more RAM at a lower price point, the market response remains to be seen as shipments begin on September 18.
