Samsung has announced the release of a new version of its Galaxy Book2 Pro 360 laptop, powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 chipset. The laptop was initially unveiled in February with an Intel processor, but the new version powered by the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 chipset is set to be released in South Korea on January 16, 2021 at a price of KRW 1.89 million (approximately $1,500, €1,400, or ₹124,000).
Galaxy Book2 Pro 360 with Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 offers improved performance and battery Life
The Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 is the first 5nm chipset for Windows-on-ARM devices and was released late last year. It offers significant improvements in performance compared to the previous generation, including an increase of +85% in multi-core CPU performance, +60% in GPU performance, and an NPU increase to 29 TOPS. These improvements could make the Galaxy Book2 Pro 360 with Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 a more powerful and efficient option for users.
In terms of physical design, the Galaxy Book2 Pro 360 with Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 is identical to the Intel-powered version. It has a 13.3-inch AMOLED display that can rotate 360 degrees and be used as a tablet with the included S Pen stylus. It is also lightweight and thin, weighing just 1.04kg (2.29lbs) and measuring 11.5mm (0.45 inches) thick.
One notable difference between the two versions is the battery life. The Snapdragon-powered version of the Galaxy Book2 Pro 360 can last up to 35 hours of video playback on a single charge, while the Intel version tops out at 21 hours. This longer battery life could make the Snapdragon-powered version more convenient for users who need their device to last throughout the day without needing to be charged.
In addition to the improved battery life, the Galaxy Book2 Pro 360 with Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 also has superior connectivity with built-in 5G and Wi-Fi 6E support. However, it should be noted that the Snapdragon-powered version is more expensive than the Intel version, with a Core i5 13.3-inch model available for KRW 1.65 million (approximately $1,350, €1,250, or ₹110,000).
The Galaxy Book2 Pro 360 with Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 is suitable for enterprise use, as it comes with Windows 11 and follows the Secured-Core PC specifications by Microsoft. These specifications lock the hardware down to the firmware level, providing the highest level of security that Windows offers.
The Samsung Galaxy Book2 Pro 360 with Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 will be released in South Korea on January 16, 2021 at a price of KRW 1.89 million. It is not yet clear if the device will be available globally or when that might happen.
