Samsung has received a patent that shows it is working on a new design that goes beyond foldable phones. The company’s latest patent includes a phone design with a rollable screen that can expand vertically upwards.
Samsung is coming with rollable screen technology
According to the design in the patent, the device will look like a standard smartphone that can easily fit in a pocket. However, when needed, the screen can extend upwards through the body of the device to offer a larger viewing area.

This mechanism allows the screen to be hidden inside the body. Therefore, the device will have a slightly thicker structure compared to traditional smartphones. The rear camera assembly is similar to the dual-lens system in the Galaxy Z Flip 6.
Another noteworthy element in the patent was the usage scenarios of the device integrated with artificial intelligence. When the screen is opened vertically, multiple content display becomes easier. For example, translation texts in different languages can be displayed simultaneously at the top and bottom of the screen.
The automatic expansion of the screen when reading long articles provides a more seamless experience for the user. Changing the screen size in sensitive tasks such as visual editing increases functionality.
There is no official information about the device’s screen size, resolution or release schedule. Samsung’s new patent application showed that the company will come up with innovative products in the foldable device segment.
