Samsung has filed a new patent application indicating its aim to enter the augmented reality (AR) wearables market with more comfortable smart glasses. The application, published under US Patent Publication Number US 2025/0347929 A1, details an innovative hinge system featuring a pulley and cable mechanism designed to provide better fit, stability, and long-term wearability.
Dual-Axis Hinge and Synchronized Cable System
The new design features a dual-axis hinge mechanism connecting the main body of the glasses to the temple arms. The system allows for multi-angle adjustments using two separate rotation shafts: one connected to the frame and the other to the temples. This arrangement helps better adapt to different head sizes without applying excessive pressure.

Samsung has also integrated a pulley and cable system into the hinge. Two pulleys, positioned on either side of the frame, are connected by a flexible wire. This allows for synchronized adjustment when one temple arm is moved. This mechanical synchronization allows both sides to expand and contract equally, improving balance and minimizing slippage during use.
According to the patent, this setup enhances long-term comfort and stability, especially during gesture-based AR interactions. It also helps distribute mechanical stress evenly, which can increase durability and reduce wear over time.
Samsung hasn’t yet confirmed whether this design will be fully implemented in its upcoming AR glasses. However, recent leaks suggest that the company’s next wearable, model number SM-O200P, is on the way. Samsung is said to be planning to introduce a screenless model in 2026, followed by a screen-equipped model in 2027.
Early details about the first version indicate it will feature Ttransitions-style photochromic lenses, a built-in camera, and support for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity. Samsung has already secured the Galaxy Glasses trademark, and the product is expected to launch in the US and other markets.
The company also collaborates with eyewear brands like Gentle Monster and Warby Parker to ensure the final product strikes a balance between style and utility.
