Samsung has introduced the 9100 PRO series, the first consumer SSD to feature PCIe 5.0 technology. The company’s new SSD model offers twice the performance and up to 49% better power efficiency than the previous-generation 990 PRO.
Samsung 9100 PRO SSD features
The Samsung 9100 PRO is currently one of the fastest PCIe Gen5.0 SSDs on the retail market, with speeds of 14,800 MB/s read and 13,400 MB/s write. The drive also boasts 2,200,000 IOPS read and 2,600,000 IOPS write, making it easy to handle large files, allowing games to load quickly and applications to run quickly.

Samsung is launching the 9100 PRO series in both standard and cooler versions. The cooler model offers an additional layer of thermal control, offering low power consumption and long life. The cooler model, which is only 8.8 mm thick, stands out as being compatible with selected game consoles.
The new SSD series also has the distinction of being Samsung’s first 8 TB capacity NVMe SSD. This high storage capacity offers an ideal solution especially for professional workloads such as photo and video editing or games with constantly increasing sizes. Of course, let’s say that it is not yet clear when the 8 TB model will be released.
Behind the superior performance of the 9100 PRO series is the 5nm controller technology developed by Samsung. Thanks to this, the drive consumes much less power and operates more efficiently compared to the previous generation.
Samsung’s new PCIe 5.0 SSD appeals to four different user groups: Performance enthusiasts who follow the latest technologies, game enthusiasts looking for speed and capacity, professionals with heavy workloads including artificial intelligence operations, and game console users. The slim design and high capacity of the cooler version provide a significant advantage, especially for compatible game console owners.
As a leader in advanced memory technologies, Samsung is redefining the standards in the SSD market with the 9100 PRO series. The new series is positioned as a reliable storage solution for notebooks, desktops and select game consoles.
