Samsung and Chemtronics are targeting a revolution in the electronics industry with the introduction of new ultra-thin OLED screens measuring just 0.2 mm thick by 2026. According to reports from Chinese sources, Samsung has already invested approximately $70 million in Chemtronics’ factory for the production of the new 8th generation OLED screens.

While the factory is owned by Chemtronics, Samsung will hold the production rights for the next generation of OLED panels once it becomes operational.
Chemtronics has already invested a total of 94.9 billion won (approximately $68.7 million) into the project, while Samsung has made significant investments at various times, including 15.9 billion won (about $11.5 million) in June 2023, 57.6 billion won in November 2023, and 21.4 billion won (approximately $15.4 million) in August 2024.
A groundbreaking ceremony for the new factory is expected to take place on November 15 in Sejong, South Korea.
With current screens measuring 0.5 mm, the new displays are anticipated to create a revolution in the tablet, smartphone, and laptop markets. The new factory is set to produce screens that are less than half the thickness of current models.
Samsung has issued an important warning to users regarding a security vulnerability found in some Exynos chips.
Apple is among the primary customers of Samsung Display for the new 8th generation screens, catering to iPads and MacBooks. Additionally, HP and Dell are also interested in launching new laptops featuring this thinner technology in partnership with Samsung.
