Samsung has completed its work for a new generation automobile camera. In this context, it is preparing to put it into mass production. The tech giant’s new camera aims to significantly improve driving safety and pave the way for a high level of autonomous functionality.

The new camera, to be manufactured by Samsung Electro-Mechanics, is designed to withstand harsh weather conditions. According to the company, it has a coating that will be 6 times stronger than current industry standards.
Special water resistance and protection treatments ensure that the sensor on the camera will remain operational even in rain, snow or high temperatures. Most importantly, the camera has a self-heating mechanism to clear frost or snow accumulation within 60 seconds.
Samsung thinks that the camera will come to the forefront with the decrease in visibility, especially in harsh winter conditions. It will keep the lens open in snowy weather, allowing drivers to see the road more comfortably.
An iris-like aperture control will automatically optimize exposure to ensure clear images day or night. Samsung said these features are designed to support advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).
Samsung’s image sensor technology is expected to deliver both high resolution and strong low-light performance. The company thinks that automotive cameras could reach a market share of 24 percent by 2025.
