Second Turkish astronaut to be launched on June 8
Tuva Cihangir Atasever, who will be Turkey’s second astronaut, will be launched into space. It was stated that Atasever will be launched into space on June 8, 2024 from the Spaceport facilities in New Mexico, USA.
Tuva Cihangir Atasever will be involved in the Galactic 07 mission to be carried out by Virgin Galactic and Axiom Space. Atasever will assume the role of research astronaut. In this context, he will perform 7 scientific experiments during the suborbital research flight.

Minister Kacır stated that Atasever’s suborbital research flight will make important contributions to scientific studies. He stated that they will send Tuva Cihangir Atasever into space, as they had agreed when they first started the project, and ensure that he will be the second Turkish astronaut.
Minister Kacır said, “As we agreed in the project agreements from the very beginning, it has become possible for our second astronaut, Tuva Cihangir Atasever, to perform space experience by making a suborbital research flight without any additional cost. Thus, Tuva Cihangir Atasever will be our second citizen to cross the space frontier and contribute to scientific studies in a microgravity environment.”
Who is Tuva Cihangir Atasever?
Tuva Cihangir Atasever was born in Ankara in 1992. He studied Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Bilkent University. He then completed his master’s degree at the University of California. Atasever, who has been working at ROKETSAN in the past years, is currently preparing for a flight in the USA.
