Intel has launched a marketing campaign called “Core Truths” aimed at informing users about AMD’s processor brand. The company created a set of marketing visuals and said that the numbering scheme on Ryzen chips is confusing. It also accused AMD of making old products look new.
Intel: Why is AMD Ryzen 7 series based on Zen 2?
AMD continues to use older architectures to make the Ryzen 7 series affordable. But Intel argues that AMD’s nomenclature, such as the Ryzen 5 7520U, hides the “true nature of the technology”. This obscures the fact that the new processors are being developed with older architectures.
By breaking down the naming structure, Intel said the 7520U is actually based on the Zen 2 architecture from 2019. Although the processor was introduced with the 7 series, it was not based on the new architecture. According to the company, the architecture is hidden in the third digit. So the number “2” represents Zen 2.
Intel also provided some performance results to back up its claims. The 13th generation Core i5 1335U outperformed the Ryzen 5 7520U by 80 percent. Therefore, the Ryzen 5 7520U does not represent the “state of the art” in education and student devices.
For those who don’t know, AMD is putting its Ryzen 7020 processors into affordable laptops. Intel, on the other hand, recommends the 13th-generation Core i3 series for higher performance and efficiency.
With the Core Truths campaign, Intel wanted to expose AMD’s “trickery” in mobile numbering. Especially targeting affordable users in the education sector, the company draws attention to AMD’s use of older architectures.
