There has been significant development regarding the Eurofighter Typhoon procurement. According to official statements released today, Turkey has signed a critical agreement to acquire a total of 44 Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jets.
Details of the Eurofighter Typhoon agreement
According to the BBC, a signing ceremony was held attended by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. The Turkish Ministry of National Defense confirmed the development, reminding the public that a Memorandum of Understanding had previously been signed between Turkey and the United Kingdom.
The agreement includes a comprehensive procurement plan encompassing multiple countries. According to the plan, Turkey will initially acquire 20 Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jets from the United Kingdom. Additionally, an agreement has been reached to procure 12 aircraft from Qatar and 12 from Oman.
The Ministry emphasized that this development is a significant step towards enhancing Turkey’s advanced combat air capabilities. It also emphasized that the agreement will strengthen defense cooperation and strategic partnerships among NATO allies.
