Sony, one of the most important figures in the gaming console world, made a post about the sales figures of the PlayStation 5, which it introduced in November 2020 and caught the lap of the coronavirus era, despite all the obstacles, caught a good sales chart.
PlayStation 5 exceeds 40 million unit barrier
PlayStation 5, released on November 12, 2020, did a good job despite factors such as economic uncertainty, supply problems and chip crisis caused by the coronavirus. The console, which reached 10 million in July 2021, did not meet Sony’s expectations at that time.
However, we see a leap in the last 1 year. The policy it pursued in the gaming side, together with the special PS 5 versions, exceeded the sales target. According to Sony’s statement, PlayStation 5 has sold more than 40 million units since its release.
Sony’s president and CEO Jim Ryan made the following statements on the subject;
“I want to continue thanking our community for their patience while we worked through these challenges for longer than I would have liked. But now PS5 supply is in a good shape and we’re seeing suppressed demand finally being released.“
Looking at the best-selling game console of the brand so far, we are greeted by PlayStation 2 with 159 million units sold. Announced in 1998, PlayStation 2 was introduced in Japan on February 4, 2000 and immediately released. PlayStation 2 was among the consoles that could be considered revolutionary.
On the other hand, Sony continues its work on the PlayStation 5 Pro. According to important sources, the company has moved to the final stage for the PlayStation 5 Pro. It is among the leaked information that the console will be released in November 2024. It is also estimated that the new console will contain newer AMD RDNA architecture such as RDNA3 or RDNA3.5, which further enhances the capabilities of the processor.
