Social media is one of the biggest problems in today’s world. Social media use, especially by young children and adolescents, causes great harm. New bans and restrictions on social media are being imposed in many parts of the world, although not in Turkey yet. Here are the social media ban rules and details in Florida…
New decision in Florida! Individuals under the age of 14 will not be able to use social media!
Social media bans have begun in many parts of the world. In this context, many countries are making new decisions in order to stop the use of social media among younger and younger ages. Florida is one of the countries that brought these bans to the agenda.
According to the decision taken in Florida, children under the age of 14 are now prohibited from using social media. In this context, according to the law called HB 3 social media bill:
- Prohibiting any child under the age of 14 from creating an account on the social media platform,
- Requiring parental consent for social media accounts of minors aged 14 or 15,
- Social media platforms must terminate all accounts owned by a 14- or 15-year-old with a 90-day appeal period unless a parent or guardian gives permission.
- Social media platforms use third-party age verification methods on new accounts,
- Those under the age of 14 or their parents or guardians must request account closure within 10 business days.
made it mandatory.
Accordingly, individuals-children under the age of 15 are now prohibited from using social media accounts within the borders of Florida. However, “parent-guardian” permission is required for people who are over the age of birth to open a social media account. An open call was also made for social media platforms to start using 3rd party age verification systems in order to ensure age security.
Sites that violate the law “knowingly or recklessly” will be fined up to $50,000 per violation. They will also be responsible for attorney fees and court costs. For permanent violations, penalties such as large damages and a complete ban on the use of the platforms within the region will be decided.
