After Trump supporters stormed the United States Capitol in 2021, the presidential candidate’s posts led to his social media accounts being restricted by Meta. According to recent developments, Meta will no longer impose restrictions on Trump’s posts. Here are the details…
Donald Trump is free again on Meta platforms
Recently surviving a serious assassination attempt and sustaining an ear injury, Donald Trump has had his posting ban lifted on Facebook and Instagram. Nick Clegg, Meta’s President of Global Affairs, stated in an official announcement that they believe Trump, like his rival Joe Biden, should be able to write about the election process and inform the public.
In January 2023, Meta reactivated Trump’s social media accounts, but continued to impose significant restrictions on Instagram and Facebook. Meta reviewed and approved Trump’s posts before publishing them. As of today, Meta officially announced that all posts will be published without any restrictions.
Nick Clegg made the following statements regarding the matter:
“With party conventions approaching, including the Republican convention next week, and the formal nomination of presidential candidates imminent, we believe the American public should hear from presidential candidates on an equal basis. As we consider our responsibility to allow political expression, we believe the American people should soon hear from the presidential candidates.”
So, what do you think about the lifting of the ban on Trump? Could there be some positive discrimination following his shooting? Don’t forget to share your thoughts with us in the comments and on our social media accounts.
