Bloodborne, one of the darkest, most relentless, and undoubtedly most beloved masterpieces of the gaming world, returns with news that will thrill fans after a wait of over a decade. Sony Pictures, in a major announcement at the prestigious CinemaCon 2026 event in Las Vegas, officially confirmed that FromSoftware’s cult classic game will be adapted into an animated film.
However, this will be no ordinary adaptation; the possibility of a “watered-down universe,” the greatest fear of Bloodborne enthusiasts, was eliminated with the announcement that the project will be in the R-rated (+18) category.
Dark Atmosphere and Violence: An Uncompromising Adaptation
Sanford Panitch, President of Sony Pictures Entertainment Motion Picture Group, provided critical clues regarding the project’s vision during the CinemaCon presentation. Panitch emphasized that the film will fully reflect Bloodborne’s famous gothic horror theme and “gory spirit,” remaining faithful to the dark aesthetic fans expect.
Choosing the animation format will allow the game’s massive and grotesque monsters, Lovecraftian horrors, and fast-paced combat scenes to be translated to the big screen in their most striking form, without being hindered by physical limitations.

Giant Partnership: PlayStation Productions and the Jacksepticeye Surprise
The production team behind the project is quite remarkable. The film is being brought to life through a partnership between PlayStation Productions and Lyrical Animation. On the financing side, Sony Pictures and Lyrical Media have joined forces.
However, the detail that caused the most stir in the announcement was the involvement of popular content creator and devoted Bloodborne fan Seán McLoughlin (Jacksepticeye) as a co-producer. McLoughlin’s inclusion in the process is seen as the greatest proof that the project is not just a commercial move, but is also being prepared with a fan’s touch that understands the game’s DNA.
A Cinematic Answer to a 10-Year Longing
First released for PlayStation 4 in 2015, Bloodborne has since created billions of hours of gameplay and a massive community of theorists through both its game mechanics and deep mythology.
Players who have been waiting years for a “Remaster” or “Bloodborne 2” will now have the chance to look into the streets of Yharnam, the tragic stories of the Hunters, and the mystery of the Great Ones through a cinematic window.
While a clear release date or voice cast has not yet been shared, the Bloodborne animated film is already a candidate to be one of the most talked-about game adaptations of recent years. Following Sony’s recent successful moves in series and films, Bloodborne making such an ambitious entry has created great excitement in the gaming world.
