As high-resolution sensors become increasingly important in mobile photography, Sony’s new 100MP and 200MP sensors will take the competition to a different level. The new standard set by Samsung with its 200MP ISOCELL sensors may be taken to a higher level with Sony’s move.
Sony is here with new camera sensors
Samsung’s 200MP ISOCELL sensors are featured in flagship models such as the Galaxy S25 Ultra, and this technology is expected to be integrated into the foldable phone series soon. In addition, it is stated that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 may feature the 200MP main camera used in the Galaxy S25 Ultra.

Chinese manufacturers have long preferred 50MP sensors in main cameras. The reason for this was that high-resolution sensors had some technical limitations. However, the new 100MP sensor developed by Sony will be used in models with the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 and Dimensity 9500 processor. This situation shows that Chinese brands are starting to turn to higher resolution cameras.
Sony’s new 200MP sensor will be larger than the current 200MP ISOCELL sensors. Especially after the interest the Vivo X200 Pro received with its 200MP periscope telephoto lens, other brands are expected to adopt this technology. The increase in sensor size will provide more light and offer a significant improvement in photo quality.
It is predicted that the period when the camera difference between flagship and mid-segment devices gradually decreases will end, and with the spread of 100MP and 200MP sensors, upper-segment models will differentiate again.
