Sony is preparing to open a new chapter in the smartphone world. Details have emerged of the company’s first 200-megapixel camera sensor. Codenamed IMX09E, the sensor is rumored to be featured in high-end models from tech giants like Oppo, Vivo, and Xiaomi.
Sony is coming with a 200MP camera sensor
According to leaked information, the new sensor measures 1/1.12 inches and has a pixel size of 0.7 µm. This makes it one of the largest 200-megapixel sensors ever used in a smartphone. The sensor appears to be slightly smaller than the LYT-900 used in the Oppo Find X8 Ultra and Xiaomi 15 Ultra. However, this does not appear to affect the sensor’s performance.

The IMX09E features Hybrid Frame HDR technology. This technology extends the sensor’s dynamic range to over 100 dB, enabling clearer and more detailed photos, especially in challenging lighting conditions.
The new sensor will compete directly with Samsung’s 200-megapixel ISOCELL HP2 sensor used in the Galaxy S25 Ultra. It is also expected to support 4x lossless zoom when paired with the improved Image Signal Processor (ISP) in Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor.
Market analysts predict that Oppo, Vivo, and Xiaomi will include this sensor in their Ultra series models. If this information is accurate, the IMX09E will be one of Sony’s biggest moves in the premium smartphone market. 2026 is poised to be an exciting year, with the competition between Samsung and Chinese manufacturers in the smartphone photography space intensifying.
