Sony made a surprising hardware announcement during its State of Play presentation. The company officially unveiled its new 27-inch PlayStation gaming monitor, designed to be fully compatible with the PlayStation 5.
What does the new PlayStation gaming monitor offer?
This new monitor features a 27-inch IPS display with QHD (2560 x 1440) resolution. One of the device’s most striking features is its support for a high 240Hz refresh rate and VRR (Variable Refresh Rate). However, this 240Hz refresh rate will be available for devices like PCs via DisplayPort or HDMI 2.1. The monitor will support a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz when connected to a PlayStation 5 console.
It’s clear that the monitor was developed specifically for the PS5. Thanks to its “Auto HDR Tone Mapping” feature, the PS5 console automatically optimizes HDR settings when it detects the monitor, eliminating the need for manual adjustments.
The design also features a clever detail. The rear of the monitor features a DualSense or DualSense Edge charging hook that can be rotated and hidden when not in use. Ports include two HDMI 2.1 ports, one DisplayPort, two USB Type-A ports, and one USB Type-C port. The device also features built-in stereo speakers and a 3.5mm audio jack.
The PlayStation monitor will be released in the United States and Japan in 2026. Sony has not yet announced the device’s official retail price. However, considering the prices of monitors with similar features, competitive positioning is expected.
