After a long, quiet stretch, Stardew Valley fans finally have a reason to get excited again. Creator Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone has confirmed that update 1.7 is in active development and it’s bringing more than just small tweaks. Expanded social features and a new farm type are officially on the way.
Stardew Valley 1.7 will add new social features

Responding directly to fans on X, ConcernedApe shared early details about what’s coming in the next big patch. The most immediate highlight? More character interactions and deeper social mechanics. This is one of the most requested areas of expansion, and it’s clear Barone has heard the call.
While specifics remain under wraps, players can expect new dialogue options, events, and systems that deepen connections between characters. Whether this means more heart events, marriage candidates, or new friendship perks is still unknown but it’s clear relationships will play a bigger role in version 1.7.
A new farm type is also coming
In keeping with the tradition of major updates, 1.7 will feature a brand-new farm layout. Each major patch since 1.1 has included a fresh map, catering to different playstyles from mining-heavy designs to ones built for foraging or fishing.
Barone didn’t reveal the theme or mechanics of the upcoming layout, but the addition keeps the game fresh for players starting new saves or looking for a reason to return.
What else is planned for Stardew Valley 1.7?
ConcernedApe made it clear that the social and farm additions are just the beginning. While holding back the full reveal, he teased that “lots more” is coming in the update.
Here’s what’s confirmed so far:
- New social features and character interactions
- Brand-new farm type
- Additional content still unannounced
- No release date yet
Fans will have to wait, but the future looks bright
The lack of a release window may test some fans’ patience, especially with Haunted Chocolatier also in the pipeline. Still, Barone’s continued support for Stardew Valley nearly a decade after launch is a rare and appreciated move in today’s game industry.
When it finally lands, version 1.7 could be the update that gives both longtime players and newcomers a reason to get their boots muddy again.
